Gynecology

After graduating from high school in 1973, Paul Sevelda studied medicine at the University of Vienna, where he received his doctorate in 1979. He then completed training as a general practitioner at the Hanusch Hospital, and in 1983 he received his decree as a general practitioner. He then stayed as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics at the 1st University Women’s Clinic in Vienna, where he became senior physician in 1987. In 1991 he became a university lecturer in gynecology and obstetrics at the medical faculty of the University of Vienna (since 2004 Medical University of Vienna), where he was appointed professor in 1995. In 1997 he became Head (Primarius) of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Lainz Hospital (later the Hietzing Hospital). Since 2000 he has also served as President of the Austrian Cancer Aid. In 2006, the Karl Landsteiner Institute for Gynecological Oncology and Senology was founded, headed by Paul Sevelda. He has also been a member of the Supreme Health Council since 2008. In his scientific and clinical work, he deals, among other things, with the surgical and drug treatment of breast cancer and gynecological cancer, early cancer detection, check-ups and cancer prevention as well as vaccination against HPV infections. Paul Sevalda’s specialties also include breast-conserving therapies for breast cancer and laparoscopic surgery.

At the beginning of February 2018, in his capacity as President of the Austrian Cancer Aid, together with the President of the Medical Association Thomas Szekeres, he submitted the “Don’t smoke” referendum for a smoking ban in gastronomy to the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
