O. Univ.-Prof. Manfred P. Dierich studied medicine in Cologne, Vienna, Graz and Ottawa 1961-1966. Approval as Dr.med. 1968.

1970 Start of training in Medical Microbiology and Immunology in Mainz (1973-1975 Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, La Jolla, California); 1977 Habilitation in Medical Microbiology; 1979 Professor of Medical Microbiology in Mainz.

1983 Full Professor of Hygiene at the University of Innsbruck and chairman of the Institute of Hygiene until the end of 2009.

He held various positions such as speaker of the professors of the medical faculty , vicerector and rector of the Medical University of Innsbruck and chairman of several commities in the university and in science politics. His science centered around „Host parasite relationship „, specifically complement and macrophages of special importance was his AIDS Research. He published several hundred scientific papers.
